The European Union (EU) unveiled this week the 'Blue Card' for skilled migrants to suppliment its requirements for engineers and IT practitioners. The plan indicated that EU needs 20M skilled workers over a period of 20 years. The successful applicants and their families will be able to live and work within the European Union.

Looking forward to this, the Filipino Engineer must prepare itself to be able to compete into the European market. Doing some simple maths, if the Philippines could only get at least 5% of the project skilled migrant requirement of the EU, that could translate to a 50,000 per year Filipino engineers and IT professionals leading to the European job market. Likewise, that could mean around US$600M annual remittances which could boost Philippine economy.
